Cavallo Point – the Lodge at the Golden Gate

Located in the heart of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (the world’s largest urban park) and at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge is Fort Baker, a property of the National Park Service (NPS). In early 2000, the NPS submitted a Request for Qualifications to restore the 28 historic buildings and develop a hospitality destination on the site. Kristin Coates and the principal of Passport Resorts developed the vision that today is known as Cavallo Point – the Lodge at the Golden Gate – an award winning, ecological hospitality destination. Coates Consulting was responsible for brand development, community relations, communications strategy, experience design, and market strategy. From 2007 to 2009, Kristin joined Cavallo Point’s Executive Team for the project launch.

Among many other awards, Cavallo Point has been named one of the Top 5 Resorts in the U.S. by Travel + Leisure and the 2013 Winner in Sustainability Category in Travel + Leisure.
