For 20 years, Kristin Coates has created one-of-a-kind, award-winning destinations and guest experiences in the American parklands, the Central American rainforest, the Fijian Islands, and other extraordinary places on the Earth. A seasoned strategy, communications and marketing expert, she works at the intersection of tourism, hospitality and conservation.
The travel gods and goddesses have lured her to more than 45 countries. Kristin has explored the deep jungles of the Amazon, sailed the South Pacific, trekked the mountains of Burma, walked every “Great Walk” in New Zealand and spent a month on a remote island off the coast of Russia. She’s also lived in Belize, Greece and New Zealand.
These adventures have shaped her approach to hospitality: Keep it real. Connect deeply with the culture and the people. Preserve nature. Have fun!
Before starting Coates Consulting, Kristin was Projects Director for Passport Resorts, parent company to the acclaimed Post Ranch Inn and Cavallo Point. She’s also worked in the nonprofit sector as Project Manager for the American Land Conservancy, Program Associate for Global Green USA, focusing on green building, and Managing Director of Global Possibilities, promoting renewable energy.
Kristin has a B.S. in Environmental Studies, with an emphasis on ecological tourism, from the University of Vermont, and a professional degree in Tourism Management and Marketing from George Washington University.
She loves hiking, biking, yoga, being with friends and family, and laughing out loud to “This American Life.” And she’s always up for an adventure!
Kristin is an AdventureEDU Educator for the Adventure Travel Trade Association.
